Learn how films are made

Many people are discouraged from making movies because they think they need to go to film school, or because they think it’s too complicated to learn on their own.

Take Quentin Tarantino’s advice: “Trying to make a feature film yourself with no money is the best film school you can do.” If what really drives you is wanting to be a film-maker, then Moviestorm is a cheap and extremely practical alternative to film school.

Alfred Hitchcock once said, “To make a great film you need three things – a great script, a great script and a great script.” Much though Hitchcock deserves respect, he was a little too dismissive of what goes into making a film. You can’t make a great film from a lousy script, true, but there’s a lot more to it. If you’ve ever watched the credits of a movie and wondered what all those people do – you may be about to find out!

When you make a movie with Moviestorm, you get to be in control of every single part of the process. You’re the director, editor, cameraman, producer, sound designer, set builder, wardrobe mistress, make-up artist, foley artist, lighting crew, and scriptwriter. You’ll soon find out which elements of movie-making you enjoy, and which bits you’re good at. You’ll see how they all mesh together, and what they contribute to a movie.

For any film buff, it’s a great way to put yourself in the shoes of your favorite directors. Once you’ve made a movie of your own, you’ll never look at movies the same way again. Even if you decide that movie-making isn’t for you – and it isn’t for everyone – it’s still a fascinating insight into how movies take shape.

Getting the best from Moviestorm

Check out our advice for film students. Get some books on filmmaking from the library, practice your skills, and make a lot of movies. You’ll be amazed how much you can learn just by doing it..

To quote Robert Rodriguez, “You need to have movie experience – you’ll learn more picking up a camera, making your own films, your own mistakes. Mistakes don’t have to be mistakes. Everything is subjective – a mistake to one person is actually a piece of art to someone else. Hide behind that, tell everyone it’s art. You can get away with a lot.
